One of our favorite festival dishes is the Pimento Cheese, Bacon, and Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese served with a classic Tomato Soup. EPCOT is kind of known for its seasonally rotating festivals. The first festival of the year is the shortest, running from mid-January to mid-February. International Festival of the Arts, lovingly known as FARTS among Disney enthusiasts showcases all different forms of art. Including our favorite, delicious and creative dishes served up at festival booths throughout the World Showcase.
One of our favorite dishes from the 2023 International Festival of the Arts was the Pimento Cheese, Bacon, and Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese. We were so happy to see it make a return for this year’s festival. Extra bonus, it is also offered as a DDP snack credit! I didn’t think there was anything better than the classic combo of grilled cheese and tomato soup until we tried this sandwich.
The Best Grilled Cheese Recipe
This recipe is more complicated than traditional grilled cheese but still very easy and even more delicious. We love using a nice quality bread. And, if you have a griddle or cast iron to make the outside perfectly crusty that would be best. If you don’t mind a little spice we definitely recommend a Pimento Cheese with a bit of spice.
Pimento Cheese, Bacon, Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
- 2 Pieces of Bread of your choice
- 1 TBSP Butter
- 2 TBSP Pimento Cheese
- 1 Fried Green Tomato
- 2 Pieces of Crispy Bacon
Instructions
Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 25 Minutes |
- If you aren’t using store bought Pimento Cheese, make that now. Recipe here.
- Cook bacon. We prefer to cook in the oven because it is much easier cleanup. Line rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment. Bake in the oven at 425 F for 10-20 minutes based on your desired crispiness.
- Make Fried Green Tomatoes. We use the air fryer method using this recipe.
- After all the components are prepped you can begin preheating your pan and building your sandwich.
- Start by buttering one side of each piece of bread.
- Put one piece of bread butter side down on a hot skillet. Add 1 TBSP of Pimento Cheese, Fried Green Tomato, Bacon, remainder of Pimento Cheese, second piece of bread butter side up.
- After you are done building the sandwich it will be close to time to flip it. Once the bottom is golden, it is ready. Cook on the second side for about 3-5 minutes or until golden.
- To serve, cut in half and dip in tomato soup!
Comparison
In our opinion, this is for sure the best way to enjoy a grilled cheese sandwich. Due to the nature of EPCOT Festival food being kind of mass produced our version is superior to what you can get from POP Eats. What’s your favorite way to make a grilled cheese?
